Kendrick Lamar and Ty Dolla $ign Made An L. A Anthem

Kendrick Lamar, Ty Dolla $ign, Brandy and James Fauntleroy have joined forces for an L.A. anthem. The song — aptly titled “LA” — is a hypnotic, melodic banger, but it also has its introspective moments. Perhaps the most powerful example of this can be found in Kendrick Lamar’s opening bars. “God, let me right my wrongs/ God, let me write this song,” he raps. “God, in the middle of the month, let me hit the pawn shop, mama said we need a loan/ God, let me dedicate this to the 80 percent that ain’t ever comin’ home/ God, let me know you exist in the city where a hundred hollow tips get thrown.” The song is also the intro to Ty’s upcoming Free T.C. project, which is set to drop Nov. 13, featuring appearances from Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa, Fetty Wap and R. Kelly.
